chocolate con churros, tapas fail

Buenos Dias de Madrid! It's been a longggg day and although pretty jet lagged, we're here and have already seen a lot! The plane ride went well except that we only fell asleep for about an hour each, so we were kinda like zombies for awhile when we landed. Luckily once we got to the hotel we were able to have 3 hours to ourselves before heading out around the city. The hotel is really nice...Brooke and Lauren are staying with two really nice girls who go to KU. Garrett LUVS his roommates from Cali. We took naps and then we went around the city with our Australian tour guide, Sam. We went to a bunch of different plazas, the main one being Plaza Del Sol. We are really lucky to be in Madrid on New Year's Eve because Plaza Del Sol is pretty much the Times Square of Spain. Thousands of people are in the plaza and the last 12 seconds before the new year strikes, you eat a grape for each second; it's supposed to be for good luck. Stay tuned for a video of that.

One of our favorite finds for the day was Chocolate Con Churros- churros that you dip in a really thick hot chocolate..so YUM. We found that in another plaza that had a Christmas festival going on. After more strolling around the city we went to the Prado Museum that houses some of the most important artwork in Europe, a little Goya, Velazquez, and Ribera. We may or may not have sat on one of the benches for awhile and Garrett may or may not have passed out and took a nap right there in the middle of the museum...

We left and went on the search for dinner with our friends Elaine and Katie from KU. We REALLY wanted tapas but it was harder to find than we thought. Finally we found a place to eat and after THREE different confusing menus and Garrett's impeccable Spanish, we got some food (and wine).

Buenos Noches!

  4. Garrett,
Where in the hell are you? This doesn't look like New york city!!! Stay out of the red light district if you're color blind. Happy Easter and all that other stuff. Have fun, be safe.
